I Must Eat My Words

After my little rant about the supermarket this morning I feel this evening I must eat my words. Or at least write new ones that tell a brighter story.

Every time I’ve visited the supermarket so far I’ve been too lost in my own head, too engrossed in getting the job done to see what was right in front of my nose. I think in many ways I’ve been doing this all week. I often live in my head, wondering, thinking, worrying mostly, but when someone else is present they take me out of my head. My husband is a master at this. He knows my ‘i’m in my head’ look and challenges me until I share what’s troubling me. I hate and love this both at the same time. Sometimes I want to shout at him for invading my thinking space, other times I feel grateful that someone cares enough to understand my ways and want to make my world brighter. There’s a comfort in the fear of sharing.

So, today the supermarket was, well, fun… well as fun as food shopping can be!

This is what I noticed.

1. The aisles are huge

2. They sell things here that people in the UK would go nuts over. Literally. You see right, that’s almond butter on tap…

3. They love coffee. Both inside and outside of Starbucks…

4. Nothing is done by halves. Yes, that’s peel your own sweetcorn, and yes there is a warning to look out for corn spiders… My husband delighted in telling me this after i’d had my hands in there and he’d taken photographic evidence… And indeed the vegetables are almost as big as my head.

5. Shop assistants want to help…

No image for this because I felt it was a bit weird to ask a shop assistant to have their picture taken with me… I’m a tourist but not that much of a tourist.

6. Peel the Wheel excites me

So, dear hubby, I eat my words. Food shopping can be fun after all…

Let me know what you think!
